Workshop Descriptions (Code SW1)

This creative and entertaining dance program is designed especially for pre-schoolers to learn about dance and the joy of movement through body-awareness, basic coordination skills & imaginative story-telling. The visual art workshop will focus on the magic and mixing of color, using a variety of materials and formats, including 2 and 3 dimensional projects.

Workshop Description (code ADT 1 & 2 )

This program allows children to explore many facets of producing a show. The children will create scenery and props in the art class, learn dance numbers in the dance class, learn the Play in the theater class and then they will put it all together for a final production on the last day.

DAC Summer Workshop Faculty

Bonnie Gombos (Dance)Director of the Darien Dance Center & DAC Summer Workshops has been teaching for over 20 years in New York and Connecticut. She has been at the DDC for the past eleven years working with students from age three through adult; with a wide range of dance styles from classical ballet, to jazz and modern. She has also worked at the Connecticut Ballet Center for many years. Bonnie was a dance-theatre major at Queens College in N.Y. and received most of her training from Hannah Kroner and the New York School of Ballet and has demonstrated at many DEA conventions in NYC. Bonnie also received a degree in Avionics from the College of Aeronautics while teaching in Queens. Bonnie is the Artistic Director of the Darien Dance Center’s Adult troupe which performs locally, and directs and choreographs for the annual adult showcase performance every October.
Debbie Vingo-Blevins (Dance) has studied dance throughout Fairfield County and New York for over 20 years. She obtained her BA in Dance/Theatre from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, with a specialization in performance and choreography. Debbie has attended numerous dance residency programs, including the American Dance Festival and Marlies Yearby’s Movin’ Spirits. Along with jazz, hip hop, tap and ballet, Debbie also teaches ballroom dance for adults and is AFAA certified to teach fitness. For the past seven years, Debbie has enjoyed performing with the Darien Dance Center’s Adult Dance company
Matthew Burcaw (Visual Art) born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, has a BFA from Parsons School of Design in illustration and minored in art education through Bank Street. He is currently at the Whitney Museum of American Art in Stamford and the Stamford Museum. Matthew recently formed a puppet troupe with his students from Rogers School in Stamford. He is a successful fine artist as well as a curator for the Mayor’s Gallery in Stamford. Matthew’s creative touch has contributed to the success of the DAC Summer Workshops for the past 6 years.
