VISUAL ARTS CENTER

donald duck    CARTOONING

For Ages 7 - 14 (Code SA2)

This course teaches the fundamentals of cartooning. Learn to draw cartoon heads, expressions & poses, set up a 3-panel comic strip & 1 panel gag cartoons.

Wednesdays 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Children’s Drawing & Painting Workshop

For Grades 4 - 6 (Code SA3)

Tailored for the serious young artist in all medias. Working one on one students develop their own interest in materials and subject matter. Strong guidance from the instructor assures each student will find the way they like to make art. Painting, drawing and sculpturing will be explored

Intermediate & Advanced Painting

Middle and High School (Code SA4)

Say it BIG! Painting is a great way to express yourself, and when you paint large, you can say a whole lot more! Learn how to stretch a canvas as big as yourself, or paint on different surfaces such as a door or Plexiglas. This class allows the serious artist to take the next step in their creative development.

Young Artists Workshop

Ages 5 - 7 (Code SA1)

Little artists will make art that is teeny-tiny to super large! With an emphasis on vocabulary, young artists will gain an understanding of art terms and process, and will be introduced to new ways of making art. This course is broken up into two week sessions to accommodate busy summer schedules. The first half will focus on painting and print making and the second will focus on assemblage and sculpture.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30 to 3:00.
June 24 to July 31.
2 weeks $110 plus $10 reg. fee total $120.
All three sessions $320 plus $10 reg fee total $330

The Darien Music Center will continue to offer private music lessons during the summer. Lessons will be pro-rated for vacation dates. Students are asked to take a minimum of six lessons in the summer, to ensure priority scheduling in the fall. To register, do not use the registration sheet on this form. Please call the DAC office and speak to Catherine Savoca 655-8683 for information regarding music registration.

In addition to private lessons, two workshops will be offered if there is enough interest.
Instrumental Workshop and Piano Workshop A weekly workshop for intermediate to advanced students
This 90 min. course is limited to 3 students w/ 1 to 2 years experience.   One-on-one lessons are approximately 20 min. each and the balance of the session is devoted to Theory games and/or group performance on multiple pianos using specially arranged music.  Once a month the session is Piano Club.  Projects vary from Listening, Analysis to learning how to compose original songs.  What is gained in these sessions is accelerated learning, camaraderie and possibly a band!  A separate detailed brochure is available upon request.

Summer term: June 16 to August 23
$36 per half hour lesson - $46 for 45 minutes and $58 for hour lessons

GUITAR: John Burns teaches all ages and levels of guitar. He studied guitar & composition at Berklee College of Music and has toured the US working with various top bands. John has taught privately since 1988.

SAXOPHONE, FLUTE, CLARINET, PIANO AND COMPOSING: Catherine Savoca, jazz composer & arranger, Berklee College of Music, has performed from Lincoln Center to Martha's Vineyard with several big bands in the tri-state area. Ms. Savoca is the director of the DAC Music Center.

PIANO: Alla Okladchik received her MA in music in Kiev and taught several years in NYC music schools.

PIANO: Juanita Bosee acquired a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Bridgeport and was a teacher in the Stamford Public Schools.

Voice: Rebecca Barko received a MM from Hartt and a BM from Bowling Green State University. Rebecca has taught voice throughout CT and is currently Alto Lead in New Canaan’s St Aloysius Church
